3Dtransform

Transformation optics for multidimensional detection

Classical optical camera systems produce two-dimensional images of the observed object distribution. However, modern applications are often dependent on the measurement of further object information. Besides three-dimensional spatial information, this can be, for example, information on the chemical composition, temperature or surface texture of an object. In principle all these parameters can already be measured with specially designed measuring systems, but this is always associated with a deterioration of essential parameters of the detection process. Moreover, such specialized measuring systems are usually very expensive and therefore not suitable for mass application. This is why there is a great need for innovative optical solutions, especially in automotive, automation, safety and medical technology.

The aim of the 3Dtransform project is to expand the functionality of cost-effective and widely distributed standard camera systems based on highly developed two-dimensional silicon CCD or CMOS sensors by using specifically designed optics.
