Investigations on the visualization of 3D objects in free space by means of laser

The pictorial representation of three-dimensional objects has exerted a great fascination on us since the beginnings of photography and film technology. However, while "holograms" hovering in free space played an important role in early science fiction films, the representation of three-dimensional content in the real world is still a great challenge. Thus, even current approaches to 3D representation are mostly based on simple stereoscopic techniques in which individually adapted images are presented to the right and left eye of the viewer. However, this technology requires the use of special spectacles and limits the optimal spatial image impression to a fixed viewing position or to a single observer.
